Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos giving her opening speech for "Beauty Runs the Gauntlet". Artworks by Gitte Backhausen

It was a wonderful opening celebration of the group exhibition “Beauty Runs The Gauntlet” at Bondi Pavillion Gallery, opened by Mayor Paula Masselos 2nd February 2024. I am grateful to have been invited to participate in this exhibition, which is celebrating, elevating, and highlighting the creativity, diversity, and achievements of local women in Waverley (Bondi), coinciding with International Women’s Day. A big shoutout to the curators Elizabeth Reidy and Todd Fuller, they have done an incredible job.

The group exhibition ‘Beauty Runs the Gauntlet’, is a showcase of female artists residing in the Waverley municipality. In this exhibition, the artists present their perspectives on the human experience, their place within the world and their relationship to environment, community and culture.

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, this exhibition aims to celebrate, elevate, and highlight the creativity, diversity, and achievements of local women.

Featuring the work of Elizabeth Day, Gitte Backhausen, Joy Ivill, Kirsten Fredericks, Marisa Purcell, Martine Emdur, Maz Dixon, Rox De Luca, Zorica Purlija. We invite you to join us in celebrating these inspiring women and their contributions to the art world.
